Avé Maria.

Excerpt from Portugal diary: ‘7th May, Sunday: We also visited Fatima, where the Pope will visit next week. We joined in a candlelight procession. I [still] have my glass with [the melted] wax in it…’

Walking in the darkness,
holding tight a candle,
watching as it flickers.
When the chorus comes you
raise your candle high up –

Avé, avé, avé Maria.
Avé, avé, avé Maria.

Candlelight procession,
silent as a tomb is.
All except the music.
Once more, there’s the chorus:
raise your candle high up –

Avé, avé, avé Maria.
Avé, avé, avé Maria.
