A Song of a Film

That’s precisely ‘This is It’. It’s mainly just songs: ‘Human Nature,’ ‘Earth Song’ and ‘Billie Jean,’ to name a few. You’ve got it, ‘This is It’ revolves around Michael Jackson’s awesome, fascinating preparation for his 50-concert world tour. A dream that didn’t come true.

‘This is It’ is just video-snippets of MJ and his band. The film begins with writing about the videos on the screen. Then, all the members of the band, from Australia and goodness knows where, say stuff like, ‘You inspired me, Michael’ and ‘I can remember my mom and me listening to you. It was MJ, MJ, MJ!’

There’s very little dialogue and mostly songs, so many times, I found myself wishing the songs would get over. And when there was dialogue, it was so sweet, so nice. It’s unbelieveable how MJ is so polite and soft and when he sings or dances… wow! He dances like a boy, his body’s like a rake, he’s very tall and he bends and stretches like rubber!

Some things in the movie were overplayed. The video accompanying MJ’s song, ‘Thriller’ was too long and so was the Humphry Bogart clip. Some of Michael’s steps were not graceful; one example is him shaking his hand (so fast, it was blurred) as though shedding a very sticky substance.

Overall, I quite liked ‘This is It,’ though I wouldn’t say, ‘Come on, guys, buy every ticket you can!’ One scene I found funny was when the director, staff, band and MJ were in a circle. When Jackson finished his soft speech, a mad camera lady whizzed around, filming everyone in the vicinity. The result was a blurry, uneven video.I tried to suppress my giggles. I mean, it mayn’t sound funny here, but you’ve got to see ‘This is It’ for that. So, why don’t you? ***

  1. I wasn’t planning to watch this film, but I really enjoyed the review. The vivid account leaves me feeling I have already watched the film so maybe the “Review is It”?

I hope you write often! You write very well!

  2. Hey Sahir, you may not remember me but you had given me your blog address long ago when I had visited your place. I am so glad you have written this post. It is nice to know that people from your generation are an MJ fan too.

I have not seen this movie but I might go for it. You know, all things said and done, I think, the song “thriller” is a bit overrated.

I had written my own tribute to MJ and I think you may like it. I can send you the link if you want. And oh, please do keep writing! This was such a nice article :-)

  3. I’m not the biggest fan of user-generated reviews spewing venom or sugar across the Internet but your recommendation possesses something which most of them singularly lack: honesty and the virtue of saying something without having to worry about sounding stupid.
“He dances like a boy, his body’s like a rake, he’s very tall and he bends and stretches like rubber!”- this was so refreshing that I found myself rereading it twice over, in fact, it was nearly as charming as that bit about a “mad camera lady”
I probably won’t watch the movie all the same, but I’ll remember this review.

  4. That’s a nice fair review. it wasn’t a great film but MJ did display phenomenal energy and elasticity which you caught very well. Looking forward to more of your reviews.

  5. Not likely to go see the film but I did enjoy reading how you saw it. Great review!

  6. Sahir it’s a fantastic writing. I’m a great MJ fan and I’m happy for the contents of your writing. “This is It” for the people who love MJ it’s a special movi and for the people who dond’t like him I think they’ll enjoy. Congratulations you are a great writer. Love and kisses from Spain.

  7. I did watch this movie , and did like it. And thought it was okay, but when i read the review, i thought that the movie was a totally different thing. I do hope that you will write reviews on many more movies.
